Can Anna Play? Last year's Par and Poker Celebrity Challenge for Charity went so well, organizers decided to make it an annual event. So, when the Super Bowl comes to Tampa in January, well-known faces will be sitting down across the felt from each other to test their card-playing skills.
The tournament has two components: an 18-hole golf event, and a Texas Hold'em No Limit tourney. The hosts are former NFL star Seth Joyner and former NCAA golfer Andy Walker.
Expected to compete this year are baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith, who is the returning champion; former Chicago Bear quaterback Jim McMahon; actor Alfonso Ribeiro, and retired NFL great Lawrence Taylor. Play will begin on January 29th, and the event is open to the public. Buy-in is $500 for poker and $1500 for golf.
Among the prizes will be three seats at the World Series of Poker next year. Poker play continues to permeate all aspects of society, despite absurd political stances against online poker.
Money generated by the tournament will benefit the Joyner-Walker Foundation, a charity the hosts developed in the Tempe, Arizona, area to help high school students acquire life skills for self-suffiency.
