The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that the World Poker Tour Boot Camp is returning to the area after an eighteen-month absence. The boot camp, which specializes in training players to improve their games, will visit the Isles of Capri Casino and Racetrack at Pompano Park November 15th and 16th.

Boot camp instructors concentrate on how to best play cash games, a style growing in popularity but not featured as much in media exposure such as television coverage. While Florida's legislated buy-in limit of $100 is less than many states, it still allows for fewer tournaments and more no-limit cash play, the game growing fastest in the Broward area.

Ron Rubens, owner of the boot camp, told the Sun-Sentinel, "Through TV and their own experience, many players have a better handle on tournament play than they do in cash games. So we've had a lot of interest from people who want to improve their cash strategies."

Professional players will instruct classes on hand strategies and quiz attendees on proper betting in various situations. At the end of the camp, students will compete on laptops against a computer opponent, using identical hands in identical order. The winner gets a free seat at the Battle for the Season Pass, a $4495 value at the boot camp event held in the Dominican Republic in December.

Past boot camp alumni include Lee Childs, who finished seventh in the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event, and Nancy Todd Tyner, winner of the first World Poker Tour women's event at the Bellagio.
